Those who lift or rig loads, whatever their classification, have the job of making all overhead lifts as safe as possible: safe for the people on their lift team, safe for people working or passing through the area, and safe for themselves. Training gives them the knowledge of capacity of lifting equipment, including the crane or hoist, slings and attachments. Know the weight of the load to be lifted. Know and perform a complete pre-lift inspection, as required, of the load and the lifting equipment, including the hoist or crane and the sling and attachments and the load lifting points, rejecting any equipment or lifting element which is unsafe due to design, wear or damaged. Set a good example for others by following safe lifting practices.
