COURSE SUMMARY
This BEST Safety Training program is designed to help employers meet the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for workers who use respirators in the workplace.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the program, workers will be able to understand:
- Relevant legislation
- Limitations of equipment
- Respiratory selection, use and care
- SCBA and Supplies Air Systems
- Preoperational inspection
- Fitting the respirator (Start-up positive and negative fit check for air-purifying respirators)
- Qualitative fit testing
Following the theory part of the program, there will be a practical evaluation completed. This consists of a facilitator observing the trainee and testing their abilities to put the theory into practice and properly fit the respirator they will be using.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Any worker required to wear a respirator, Supervisors, Lead Hands, and Health and Safety Committee members/representatives.
PROGRAM DETAILS
The theory portion of training is approximately 90 minutes, followed by a question and answer period. Practical evaluations take 10 minutes per person. You must not smoke, eat, chew gum, or drink any liquid except water for 20 minutes before the test. Men must be clean-shaven. Generally, a group of 10 participants can be tested in three hours.
Please note that we do not supply respirators for the fit test; kindly ensure you bring your respirator for the assessment.
